Experienced and Skilled Team
Our team combine passion with years of expertise in landscaping, horticulture and timber construction.
Sustainability, beauty and function in every project.
What we do
We design and build habitat rich landscapes and beautiful timber structures for play and leisure.
For schools and nurseries, local authorities, commercial and private customers.
Sustainability + Beauty + Function
We prioritise sustainable practices, building handsome structures in untreated yet durable timber, much of it locally grown, and other lower impact materials. We reuse what we can, seek alternatives to cement and minimise waste.
In design and build we also maximise opportunities to create niches for wildlife, the growing of food, beautiful colourful landscapes, opportunities for play, entertaining and relaxation and accessibility. A clever design can bring benefits across all these areas.
Our team combine passion with years of expertise in landscaping, horticulture and timber construction.
Whether designing a charming playhouse for a private garden or a large park commission, Monkey Business Design is adept at handling projects of varying sizes and complexities.
Beyond play equipment, the company is also deeply involved in ecological restoration and wildlife recovery, demonstrating a commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development.
Monkey Business at Work
Everything is designed and built by our own carpenters, landscapers and groundworkers, between the Bristol workshop and your site.
Work in all Weather
Our Weston Rec woodland trail in Bath was installed in the wettest conditions you could not hope for, and still finished on programme. Working through British winters is part of the job.
Our Step By Step Process
Unless it's remote design work, we will make an initial, no-obligation visit to meet you on-site, to discuss your needs, ideas, and budget. We will also take photos and measurements, and collect site information such as underground utilities, access, any noise and work restrictions.
We will also agree to a design fee (where applicable) based on the size and complexity of the works and the detail required.
The Monkey Business Design team will present one or more design ideas and descriptions with approximate costings. We use multi-media illustrations as well as photos, mood boards, Pinterest boards and product samples.
Based upon your feedback, our team will amend your design to your satisfaction. As well as the detailed design and itemised costs, the design package may include: project timings and work schedule, maintenance recommendations, warranties, reference to standards, health and safety information and a payment schedule.
When we have agreement to proceed, we will programme your project and may request a deposit.
We use our own team of skilled landscapers and carpenters, supplemented rarely by selected sub-contractors and always under our close supervision and project management. We build what we can in our Bristol workshop to minimise on-site time.
At Monkey Business Design, we are committed to providing a safe play environment while encouraging sensible risk aware play. We design and build in public spaces and educational establishments to comply with BS EN 1176 and BS EN 1177 safety standards.
We also work with independent play inspectors to assess our proposals at the design stage and to produce post-construction play inspection reports.
Ensure your new equipment can be enjoyed for many years to come. We can provide a full inspection and maintenance schedule for your own use and may offer an annual maintenance service.
Warranties and Replacement Parts - we offer manufacturer's warranties on our own work alongside suppliers' warranties and can help you source and replace parts.
